The raid came on an illegal bakery unit in the Katedan Industrial Area where police and food safety officials came to check out and found eggs that were spoiled, synthetic chemicals, and nonhygienic items in the production of bakery products. The bakery was selling cakes, buns and donuts in violation of the licenses for making them there and where its recipe was unsafe for making them.

They told investigators rotten eggs were mixed in and on the dough and batter. Harmful chemicals were added to enhance texture and shelf life, too. The unhygienic nature of the unit shocked investigators, who seized the materials and closed the operation, the report said. Three people working at the bakery were arrested.

The news of the raid erupted across Hyderabad, and citizens of the city were outraged. They got mad at the dangerous practices in their own city. Parents cared for children whose meals are typically bakery products and they were demanding more close monitoring of food production units.

On social media, Hyderabad Police released details of their raid and told us not to travel with bakery products. People hailed the response from the authorities but said there must be tougher enforcement if the same should happen in the future.

Food adulteration is still present in India. And vendors with bad ingredients are often caught selling spoiled or unsafe food in order to cut costs; a problem that puts public health at risk. In this context, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has good guidelines but enforcement measures are poor and so illegal businesses can operate even while regulations take place at present.

We’ll need regular inspections, stronger penalties and public awareness campaigns, trainers advise. We encourage people to only buy bakery products from legally certified and trusted sites and to call for clarification around them, if suspicious activity is reported to authorities.

Hence, the Katedan bakery raid in Hyderabad has made food adulteration a thing of the past. Things went wrong with eggs and chemicals are in fact the ingredients and people were mixing them up all the time for everyday bakery products and they’re just cheap and dangerous. The incident showed that more control over food safety and what people are eating in our kitchen is necessary in order to keep what we have in it safe to eat healthy and safe.
