Chennai residents will experience a power interruption on Wednesday, July 29, as TNPDCL will perform essential maintenance work on the electricity distribution network in some parts of Chennai to maintain the power supply network for the rest of the city.
The TNPDCL said electricity supply will be suspended from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM in some areas connected to the Perungudi 110 KV Substation under the Palavakkam distribution circle as part of the planned maintenance to make power infrastructure reliable, efficient, and safe.
The outage may be resolved by the time the maintenance is completed (the utility said), but the residents and businesses in the affected territories are advised to take precautions in order to minimise inconvenience during this period.
Areas Affected by the Power Shutdown
The scheduled electricity interruption will affect the following areas:
- Govindan Nagar 1st Street to 7th Street
- Maniammai Street
- Kolavizhi Amman 1st Street to 15th Street
- MGR Nagar 1st Street to 4th Street
- Krishna Nagar 1st Street to 8th Street
- Patchiyappan Street
- D.S.G. Nagar
- Periyar Street
- Nearby localities connected to the Perungudi substation.
Residents in these neighbourhoods may experience a complete disruption of power supply during the maintenance window.
Purpose of the Maintenance Work
TNPDCL regularly conducts preventive maintenance and infrastructure upgrades to guarantee uninterrupted electricity supply and reduce the risk of unexpected outages. The maintenance work scheduled for July 29 will increase the efficiency of the utility based on power distribution networks in the Perungudi region and its surroundings.
In rapidly developing urban centres such as Chennai, where electricity demand is not only increasing but also due to residential growth, commercial establishments, and industrial activity, maintenance is crucial.

Power Restoration Expected by Afternoon
TNPDCL has said that electricity supply will resume by 2:00 PM once the maintenance work is completed. If the work is completed earlier than expected, power will be restored earlier than anticipated.
