Sudarson and Vidhya each morning at approximately 6:30 am gather together a batch of just shy of 60 kg of soaked rice and raw peanuts. As the food is being laid out, flocks of parrots come through on time, filling the sky with colorful green wings. The rooftop turns beautiful, thousands of birds co‑surfing and chatting, in peace, over a distance. It has become an image of harmony, of kindness, of humans in large cities tending to the wild.

Sudarson’s adventure started 15 years ago, following his father’s death. Desperate for comfort, he would roam the terrace and observe a mother feeding the parrots nearby. And inspired, starting to feed the birds, more and more of those parrots also began to visit. What began as a simple act of kindness expanded into an everyday event that has garnered thousands of birds. His wife Vidhya has served as a permanent partner in this endeavor, helping prepare the food and keep up the routine.

Video footage and photo images of the rooftop feeding have gone viral on social media. Viewers have been awestruck to see this: thousands of parrots congregate under one roof at a single spot. Many praise Sudarson and Vidhya for their resolve and dedication and say they are symbols of compassion and urban conservation. When visitors have heard about the spectacle, people who saw it are also in awe at the sounds and pictures that describe it as a magical, amazing sight. The sounds of chirping parrots, birds calling and green flocks at one remove are unforgettable sights. There is a great feeling at sea. It is almost like magic itself.

The couple’s initiatives illustrate the importance of human‑wildlife coexistence. Their rooftop sanctuary is an example that small acts of concern make a profound change to a city plagued by the destruction of natural habitats by rapidly urbanizing populations just when our species is being threatened in the process. It also raises public consciousness to protect bird species and maintain urban eco‑balance in cities.

It's not all about feeding birds; the Parrot Man's story in Chennai is more than about feeding birds; it's about love, strength, and the relationship between humans and nature. It's about re‑enactment. For 15 years, Sudarson Sah and his wife Vidhya have demonstrated how compassion can turn mundane spaces into extraordinary sanctuaries. It's also true that in even the busiest of cities, kindness can create harmony their roof is alive with thousands of parrots.
