In a significant development in the youth and students' protest in the capital, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has offered to call off the one-week demonstration until the central government agrees to meet their three core demands.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, CJP National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said they are committed to non-violent protest, and are asking people across the country to take on a peaceful candle march.

“If you can accept our three demands in writing, we will go home. We have requested permission to take out a peaceful candle march across the country. We want everyone to take out a candle march across the country at 6:00 in the evening.” He explained that the current clashes were only caused by police intervention during earlier demonstrations and urged all of them to be involved in a broader discussion about systemic accountability.
The CJP’s three main conditions needed to end their protest are:
FIR withdrawal: Immediate dropping of all existing First Information Reports (FIRs) and formal assurances against future legal action against student demonstrators.
Institutional Accountability: clear steps are needed to improve examination procedures, to be more transparent, and to address the ongoing youth anger over paper leaks. Official Apology & Relief: A public apology for the police’s actions during the Parliament march against the students and safety guarantees for civil society activists.
Calling for a candle march at 6:00 PM, all NGOs, students and citizens: the CJP executive committee is calling on the country to hold a candle march at 6:00 PM today. A group of activists from different states is working with district collectors to ensure the events are orderly, safe, and compliant with local regulations. Ranka told us to be disciplined and limit public gathering slogans only to educational and administrative issues.
The party leadership is confident that a clear, quiet display of solidarity across cities will show the masses that they are still convinced of their program, and will allow for a peaceful resolution. The Cockroach Janta Party, which started as a youth-led satirical movement in the 1980s and has now evolved into a progressive voice in the fight for administrative transparency, said the ball is now in the government's hands.
The CJP representatives have been in touch with the government ministers for a while and spoke with local media, but they said verbal promises are not enough to remove the demonstrations from the streets. We have until 6 p.m. on the evening of the candle demonstration in the vicinity of the school district collector's office to see if the government will respond to the three conditions and the long protests will finally end.
