The road accident between two cars and a motorcycle broke down on National Highway 648 (NHS 648) near Savakanahalli village in Devanahalli Taluk of Bengaluru Rural district on Sunday. A motorcycle rider was injured, and the cars involved suffered heavy damage, according to highway CCTV video camera footage.
According to the preliminary information, the occupants of one of the cars were returning after visiting a temple and seeking the blessings of Sri Raghavendra Swamy when the accident happened. The accident occurred at Savakanahalli on the Hoskote-Dabaspete Highway, an area with heavy traffic throughout the day.
A car was parked on the side of the highway when another car approached from behind and lost control due to the driver’s negligence, said authorities. The speeding vehicle first struck a motorcycle, sending it into the front of the vehicle, and then struck a stationary car parked along the roadside.
The crash was so serious that the motorcycle rider was thrown off balance and suffered serious injuries. The rider suffered a fracture in one leg and was sent to a hospital in Devanahalli for treatment. The injured rider is being treated and is in good health, medical sources said.
The occupants of the two cars also had minor injuries. Fortunately, no fatalities occurred, and all who were involved escaped from the accident safely. Emergency responders and residents rushed to the scene soon after the collision to assist the injured and clear traffic congestion caused by the accident.
Particularly significant in this incident is that the entire sequence was captured on highway surveillance cameras. CCTV footage will surely help investigators to determine the cause of the accident and establish responsibility.
The dangers of distracted and negligent driving on highways have long been flagged by road safety experts. Such incidents highlight the importance of maintaining safe distances between vehicles and exercising caution when driving.
Police officials from the jurisdictional Viswanathapura Police Station visited the accident site and started an investigation. CCTV footage, witness statements, and vehicle damage are being looked at to trace the events leading up to the crash.
The accident once again raises concerns over highway safety in the Bengaluru Rural region, where increased traffic volume has led to a rise in road mishaps. Residents have asked authorities to strengthen safety measures and improve awareness among motorists to prevent such incidents in the future.
There is still an investigation of the case, and police will take appropriate action based on the results of that investigation.
