Mantralayam, the holy town, is alive with the spirit of dedication for the 405th Pattabhisheka Mahotsava of Guru Raghavendra Swamy. The week-long festival, called Guru Vaibhavotsava, has been attended by thousands of worshippers from all over the country, including the popular Sandalwood actress Bhavana Rao, who went to the shrine in search of the "Guru Sarvabhouma."
A Week of Spiritual Bliss (Feb 18 to Feb 24)
The Guru Vaibhavotsava 2026 opened with the start of this year on February 18th and will end on February 24th. This annual feast marks the culmination of two important events in the life of the 17th-century saint:
- The 405th Anniversary of his Pattabhisheka: The day Venkatanatha was sanctified as Sri Raghavendra Teertha.
- The 431st Vardhanti (Birthday): celebrated in honour of His birthday, the event will be marked by a massive celebration on February 24.
The temple complex has been converted into a haven of Vedic chants, cultural performances and sacred ceremonies under the direction of Sri Subudhendra Teertha Swamiji, the present pontiff of the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Matha.
“Rayaru’s Miracles Are infinite”: Bhavana Rao
Kannada actress Bhavana Rao (famed for movies such as Gaalipata) was seen offering prayers at the Brindavana amidst the crowd of devotees. Speaking for the media after her darshan, the actress seemed profoundly touched by the spiritual atmosphere around her.
“The miracles of Swamy Raghavendra are large and deep,” Bhavana said. “I think if you kneel to him and ask him with pure heart, he solves every problem. Being here at 405th Pattabhisheka ceremony is a blessing I shall always treasure.”
Special Rituals and the “Vardhanti” Conclusion
The 7 day ceremony features several of the world-famous religious ceremonies:
- Sahasra Kalasa Ksheerabhisheka: A lavish milk ablution ceremony with 1,000 sanctified pots.
- Nada Haram: Evening cultural groups with world-renowned classical musicians and dancers.
- Rathotsava: The ceremonial chariot procession of the deity around the temple grounds.
As the festival approaches its last day on February 24, crowds are expected to double. The Vardhanti Utsava (Birthday celebration) also includes a special Kanakabhisheka (showering of gold coins) and Laksha Pushparchana (offering of a lakh flowers), marking a spectacular closure of the 2026 Guru Vaibhavotsava.
Even to the devotees, the message isn’t lost: in the presence of Rayaru, faith will see to it that all of life’s trials and tribulations will come to an end.
