The arrest came after a woman courageously filed a complaint, ending the suspect's month-long spree of harassment.

Modus Operandi: Unwanted Hugs and Indecent Assault

According to police investigation, Vinod's modus operandi was disturbingly simple yet effective due to the element of surprise:

  • Target: His victims were always women traveling alone after 6 PM, whether on foot or on a two-wheeler.
  • The Act: He would rush towards lonely women and forcibly hug them tightly. For women on bikes, he would wait for them to slow down due to potholes or speed breakers before lunging at them.
  • Indecent Assault: Following the forced hug, he would allegedly engage in indecent behavior, touching private parts of the victims before fleeing the scene.

The Incident Leading to Arrest

The string of crimes was finally halted following a complaint filed regarding an incident that occurred on December 2nd near Srinivasa Circle in Sunkadakatte.

The victim was riding her bike while her husband was following close behind in a car. When the woman slowed down near a pothole, Vinod suddenly rushed up, grabbed her, and behaved indecently.

The victim’s husband, witnessing the attack from his car, immediately tried to intervene and catch the culprit. Though Vinod initially managed to escape, the couple promptly called the Police Control Room (112), leading to a swift response from the Hoysala patrol team and the eventual apprehension of the suspect.

Confession Reveals Twisted Motivation

During the initial police interrogation, Vinod reportedly confessed that he had been carrying out these acts for a month. He admitted that he kept repeating the offenses because no victim had filed a formal complaint against him, leading him to believe he could continue his spree with impunity.

The accused, Vinod, is now under the custody of the Kamakshipalya police, who are conducting further investigations into the case and the full extent of his month-long criminal activities.
