In such a crucial move, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar and senior Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad will go to New Delhi for talks with the party's top brass.

High Command to Take Final Call

According to party sources, the Delhi meeting is expected to focus on finalising the cabinet expansion while ensuring regional, caste and seniority-based representation in the state ministry.

The Congress leadership is keen to strike a balance between such factions and communities to avoid dissatisfaction in the party. The party’s high command is viewed as crucial before the final list of new ministers and any reshuffle of portfolios.

Intense competition for Ministerial Berths

The cabinet expansion has triggered intense lobbying among Congress MLAs, many of whom are hopeful to be in the Siddaramaiah-led government.

Several legislators from different regions have been making the case for inclusion by citing their political experience and organisational involvement, and regional representation.

The leadership now has to deal with aspirants while keeping political and social balance in the cabinet.

Portfolio Allocation Also on Agenda

Apart from the introduction of new ministers, discussions will also focus on the redistribution of important portfolios.

Based on the final composition of the expanded cabinet structure in the end, departments in the expanded cabinet can change depending on the final cabinet. The leadership needs to assess administrative performance, governance priorities, and political considerations to make decisions before making any decision.

Focus on Party Unity

The Congress leadership is determined that the cabinet expansion does not create internal differences within the party. Senior leaders are to consult the high command on the best possible formula that accommodates different interests while strengthening the government’s stability.

Political observers say that the Delhi meeting will play a key role in deciding the next phase of the Karnataka government's functioning.

Official Announcement Awaited

Although discussions of ministerial appointments continue, no announcement has been made on the date of cabinet expansion or the names of the likely inductees.

But the final decision is expected only after consultations with the Congress high command in New Delhi.

The outcome of the meeting will have a huge impact on Karnataka’s political landscape, as the ruling Congress seeks to strengthen governance and organisational unity ahead of future political challenges.
