The accused was arrested in the vicinity of Vinayaka College in the Swaminathanapura area of KGF city, and the police claim that they were attempting to sell the banned narcotic.

Citing credible information, police raided the area and arrested the suspects. Police seized around 2 kg 450 grams of ganja during the search operation. The narcotics have been reportedly worth around Rs 1.5 lakh in the illegal trade. The suspects were suspected of targeting young people and students nearby, police officials said.

For some time, it was believed that the pair were suppliers of ganja to educational institutions and local communities. After the seizure, the accused were taken into custody and appeared in court. The seized ganja is to be sent for further examination and investigation. As per the relevant sections of the Robertsonpet Police Station, one case has been registered relating to illegal possession and sale of narcotic substances.

Now, investigators want to know where the ganja supply network comes from and if more individuals are behind the case. Officials said steps are being taken to search for other people linked to the distribution chain. Police are also investigating cellphone records and local contacts of the people who are accused to connect those individuals to possible connections to larger drug trafficking organisations working in the area.

This is in addition to ramping up police surveillance of narcotics in and around educational centres and institutes of higher learning all over Karnataka. In recent months, they have enhanced efforts to combat drug problems among young people. It has called on people in their local area to bring anything out of the ordinary to light, and has suggested that they cooperate with the police to curb drug smuggling.
