Public Protest in Narasapura, Kolar Over Delayed Road Construction

In Narasapura village, in Kolar taluk, one of the largest protests in recent months took place during this summer, when angry villagers blocked the avenue to demand immediate completion of the road work that awaited. Construction delays left the main road half‑finished, and it’s creating an unbearable dust and daily ordeal for the public.

Villagers have been suffering from excessive dust for weeks, because the road work hasn’t come to a finish. At the onset of this period, the asphalt (tar) laying was halted, with the road surface exposed. During the driving of vehicles, clouds of dust accumulate, hindering pedestrians from ambulating, walking, commuting and performing daily tasks. Residents said the dust has become a health danger, especially for children and older residents. Farmers and shopkeepers also say the dusty environment is impacting their livelihoods. The main road to Narasapura hobli centre has become a dust‑filled stretch, leading villagers to take matters into their own hands.

Villagers on Feb. 10 staged a road blockade protest. In large numbers, they began to pull over traffic and demanded the government resume and finish the road work as soon as possible. The protesters claimed that despite repeated calls, authorities had done nothing and the people were left to suffer every day. The protest was peaceful yet strong, with villagers expressing their anger at the neglect it had caused. Development projects should not be left unfinished, they said, because half‑finished work creates more problems than before.

Road work came to a halt amid objections by a handful of people. This halt is causing continued dust pollution and leaves the project uncompleted. They are telling the government it should expedite their resolution and prioritize the public good.

The demonstration drew attention to the solidarity of the villagers, who united to demand justice. Many residents said they would keep agitating until the road is finished. Their demand is not political though, but only about health, safety and infrastructure of a basic kind, they point out.

The Narasapura protests in Kolar district are living proof of the effects the delayed development projects have. Although the construction of roads is intended to increase connectivity, incomplete construction has put public services in daily agony for everyone. Villagers want nothing more than to have the road work done as soon as possible. The matter highlights the need to both hold people responsible for a project’s progress and execute it on time.
