The incident created a lot of drama, which was filmed, and via social media, leading to a police investigation. One occurred at a busy stretch of road between the road of Kuvempunagar Police Station and Sub-Registrar’s office at Andolana Circle, Mysuru, it was posted.

Commuters and pedestrians were dazed as they spotted a man clinging to a bonnet in a racing red Maruti Suzuki Baleno weaving in and out of traffic, witnesses said. According to reports, it was two men called Mahadev and Dhananjay. Mahadev allegedly lent Dhananjay money and went up to him to get it repaid, police said.

What started as a fight between people turned into a street fight, escalating in public. Tensions boiled over, and Dhananjay was also said to have attempted to pull away from the scene behind his car. Mahadev apparently jumped onto the bonnet of the car, clutched his grip on the car in an attempt to hinder it from going behind the wheel.

The driver did not stop the car but operated it at speed while Mahadev's torso was dangling from the front of the vehicle. Footage from onlookers then flooded social media, sparking outrage and panic in the public sphere. The footage showed the car accelerating on a busy road while the man tried to remain on the bonnet, putting not only the driver but also the road at risk.

The viral images immediately elicited online censure from some of those users who had commented on how this kind of behaviour could take place on a dense road, and most described it as reckless and dangerous. The driver was charged with life-threatening and reckless charges that some users said deserved to be taken to court.

The footage captured by police officers told the Washington Post that an investigation was begun after full exposure of these videos. It said the cameras were being analysed on both sides, and police said the two sides were being interrogated as part of this enquiry.

Early indications are that the case was essentially a direct financial feud between the two men. But the police are also trying to figure out whether other crimes like reckless driving, endangering life, criminal intimidation or attempted assault could be at fault, depending on the evidence they have brought to bear on him or her.

Officials need CCTV footage from or near where the incident occurred, as well as witnesses’ statements, in an effort to try to piece together the facts as best they can. Law enforcement officials could also investigate whether the driver’s attempt to escape broke traffic laws.

Several driver safety experts have repeatedly cautioned about the perils of aggressive driving and of the initiation of conflict on a public street. Confrontation can turn deadly almost immediately, particularly on busy urban roads and congested traffic, for those in dangerous situations.

It is also an example of how fights might become high-risk public emergencies within minutes. Most residents cited that if the man had released his grip and gotten into road traffic, the outcome would have been much more fatal.

They advised the people not to use the law solely for the purpose of the law and to arrive at a legal answer by lawful means. Now that they’ve started their investigation of the viral case in Mysuru, police are probably going to be deciding where to head next, if the legal process should be followed.
