A dramatic incident on a KSRTC bus in Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus has attracted much attention following a woman's report of a fellow passenger being rude and inappropriate during the bus journey from Kolar to Bangarapet.
The incident was reportedly captured on video and posted on social media and has reignited debates about women’s safety on public transportation and the need for better protection against harassment.
The incident took place on a KSRTC bus travelling on the Kolar-Bangarapet route. The bus was carrying many passengers on a regular journey when a man sitting next to a woman started to behave inappropriately. “He repeatedly touched the woman while she was on the bus and she didn’t move,” witnesses said.
The woman initially thought that the contact was accidental, as buses sway and passengers may bump into each other. But she later said he continued to touch her and became more and more uncomfortable. One passenger said he tried to touch her many times and was acting “unprofessional.”
The way all of the attention was focused on the passenger was to the point that the woman was about to confront him directly. She said she was shocked and disturbed by his conduct and called out the alleged conduct in front of the other passengers.
Passengers on the bus are said to have condemned the man’s behaviour and intervened. Reports said the woman confronted the accused on the spot and things got heated on the bus. During the incident, a lot of passengers were angry about the allegations.
Witnesses said the man apologised and asked for forgiveness after being confronted. But by this time, the situation had already attracted a lot of passenger attention. As tensions on board the bus rose, the accused tried to run away from the scene.
The man jumped from the moving bus and fled before authorities could be notified or action could be taken against him, according to reports. He has not been found, and no formal complaint has been filed yet regarding the incident.
The video of the confrontation has gone viral on social media, attracting thousands of views and sparking heated debate. Many praised the woman for standing up against alleged harassment and refusing to remain silent. Others called for better safety mechanisms and quicker responses to complaints about misconduct on public transportation.
