New Delhi: Security arrangements have been significantly beefed up in parts of the national capital, particularly around Jantar Mantar and other centers of central Delhi, following the CJP's call for a "March to Parliament" on Sunday. Police are in abundance, as well as Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Delhi Police are there to ensure that law and order are upheld and no untoward activity is going to occur in the upcoming demonstration.
Jantar Mantar, one of Delhi’s most popular zones for public protests and demonstrations, was also a place of high security from early in the morning. Police officers and RAF personnel with riot control gear deployed and others on hand were seen conducting area domination exercises and monitoring the movement of people around the protest site.
There has also been increased surveillance by CCTV cameras, drone monitoring in sensitive areas where permitted, and mobile patrol units. Barricades have been set up at strategic points in front of Parliament Street and other high-security government zones to regulate the movement of protesters and vehicles.
The deployment comes after the CJP announced its plan to organize a “March to Parliament.” Security forces are bracing in advance for large crowds in and around central Delhi. All peaceful protests are allowed within the law and according to the specific conditions, but security agencies are mindful of the fact that demonstrations do not disturb public order and also cause the security of important government structures to be compromised.
Senior Delhi Police officials have stated that well-organized arrangements have been made to manage crowd control. Traffic staff have been stationed at major intersections for congestion reduction and to direct the masses through alternate routes when necessary. Security personnel have told people that they should act and follow traffic advisories issued throughout the day.
The Rapid Action Force, a specialized unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), is often deployed in response to crowd situations and riot control preparations. Their presence alongside Delhi Police is emblematic of the administration’s attempt to maintain peace and allow democratic expression to occur peacefully.
More security checks have been increased at metro stations, bus terminals, and entry points to the Parliament complex. Commuters traveling through central Delhi will be subjected to further screening and may experience delays as the protesters move around on their way to the Parliament.
Police officers have been instructed to be constantly watchful for misinformation and rumors on social media that may lead to violence and cause chaos and disturbance in public order. Cyber monitoring teams are monitoring online channels to identify misleading content related to the protest.
Residents and office-goers in the vicinity have been advised to plan their travel in advance. In central Delhi, government offices, commercial places, and public institutions are operating.
Delhi Traffic Police will be providing periodic updates about road closures, diversions, and congestion throughout the day, and motorists are encouraged to use navigation applications and official traffic advisories before moving off.
