In an atmosphere of intensifying conflict between Iran, Iraq, Israel, and the United States, Jagadguru Srisaila Channasiddharama Panditaradhya Shivacharya Swamiji has been making a passionate appeal for India to act as a global peacemaker. The Jagadguru delivered his counsel to the Vice President of India, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, during a high-profile religious ceremony in the Belagavi district on Thursday.
The appeal was made at the historic Sri Veerabhadreshwar Temple, Yadur, Chikkodi Taluk, where the Vice President was sitting as the Chief Guest for the inauguration of the newly constructed Rajagopuram and for the Mahakumbhabhishekam ceremony.
A Call for Global Intervention
Speaking directly to the gathering and to the Vice President, the Srisaila Jagadguru expressed immense alarm over the worsening situation in the Gulf and the Middle East. The current war, extended from Iran and Iraq to Israeli territory, is a tragedy that the contemporary world ought not to see, he continued.
“This war should not have taken place. It inflicts immense suffering and global instability,” Swamiji says. He called on the Vice President to tell the Union Government that India has to intervene and halt the violence. The Jagadguru further added the intervention would not only save lives but add considerable reputation and honor to India on the international scene.
India as the Voice of World Peace
Influenced by India's traditional history, the Swamiji reminded the audience that the country has advocated, of Vishva Shanti, or world peace, since time immemorial. “India has promoted peace and harmony since the old days. Today the whole world looks to our country for leadership. India must, if it is to use its diplomatic tool to reconcile warring countries at the table of peace," the Srisaila Jagadguru said.
The UCC is a demand for Uniform Civil Code
In addition to the global diplomacy Jagadguru elaborated on internal legislative reforms. In a major statement, he called on the Vice President to lead early adoption of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) throughout the nation. He believes that a unified and progressive nation needs one set of civil laws for all citizens (Swamiji). He asked the Vice President to make sure that the government moves fast in making the UCC happen.
The significance of the Yadur Event at this point in time is immense
In line at Yadur was a number of religious people as well as political professionals: Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, office presidents, ministers for state departments, and so on. After a period of relative silence, the Vice President arrived at Belagavi earlier today to listen intently to the Jagadguru's counsel combining the spiritual doctrine of the Veerashaiva faith with pressing geopolitical and national issues.
