Preeti Pawar continued her impressive performance on the international stage and made it to the final of the women’s 54kg bantamweight category in the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. Displaying excellent ringcraft, speed, and tactical superiority, the young Indian pugilist won a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Zambia’s Catherine Mwape in the semi-finals. In the earlier rounds, she secured a place in the finals for herself in the tournament with her win over Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde. Preeti's performance in the ring puts her one step closer to the country’s gold medalist status, and she is also on her way to winning.
A Storied Rise from the Nurseries of Bhiwani. Preeti was born on 23 October 2003 in the crucible of Indian boxing, Bhiwani, Haryana. Preeti’s rise to international fame is in part based on a family legacy of sports. She was trained in the sport by her uncle Vinod, a former national-level medallist. She started out as a clever southpaw and rose to the top level of Indian boxing as a teenager, winning a silver medal at the 2020 Khelo India Games and a gold medal at the 2021 Youth Asian Games, as well as a gold medal at the Youth World Boxing Championships.
From the very beginning, Preeti has come to the top of the world with a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Championships in Amman and garnered a lot of attention at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023. Her bronze medal in Hangzhou in the 54kg weight class is forever etched into history, and she won the quota for India in the Paris 2024 Olympics. She also won a gold medal at the Asian U-22 and Youth Boxing Championships in Astana. She has always been a very loyal community member, as she became the first female Indian officer to be commissioned in the Indian Army as a Nayab Subedar.
