At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow the Indian boxing contingent is currently in a dominant form and young pugilist Jadumani Singh Mandengbam is the latest to win a medal in the tournament. In the men's 55kg category Jadumani reached the semi-finals and won India its third boxing medal in a single day alongside fellow Indians Preeti Pawar and Priya Ghanghas in a record breaking performance in the sport. Jadumani earned a place in the final with a clinic in the final with a perfect 5-0 unanimous decision victory against Zambia’s Mwengo Mwale who dominated the ring and received top marks in all three rounds by judges.
Because the Commonwealth Games give out two bronze medals to losing semifinalists without a separate third place playoff, Jadumani's participation in the next round ensures he will win at least one bronze medal for the wonderful win. Before this medal-winning win, the young boxer breezed through his preliminary hurdles like a baby. He won 5-0 unanimous decision wins against Scotland’s local favorite Aaron Cullen and then another clinical 5-0 sweep against Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman in the Round of 16. Jadumani, in the face of immense patriotism and national pride after his great preliminary victory, dedicated his victory to the heroes of Kargil and promised to fight for gold and bring back the country’s gold medal.
Jadumani’s win completed an incredible hat-trick for Indian boxing in Glasgow. Priya Ghanghas had earlier in the day made a hard fought 4-1 split decision to secure her place in the women's 60kg semifinals against Niamh Mitchell from Scotland. At the same time Preeti Pawar stormed into the women's 54kg semifinals with a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde. Adding to this already formidable line-up, Olympic star Lovlina Borgohain had already secured her semi-final place after she received a direct bye into the women's 75kg category.
With Jadumani, Priya, Preeti and Lovlina safely through to the penultimate stage India has now ensured that at least four boxing medals will be awarded at the Glasgow Games, and there is no doubt about the depth of the training that the national team has. As these top-class athletes go into the ring for their respective semifinal matches in the near future the entire nation will be anxiously awaiting how many of those guaranteed bronze medals can be turned to silver and gold on the international stage.
