Security, Traffic and Infrastructure Ready for the Yatra . Jammu and Kashmir authorities have put in place a multi-layered security plan to protect pilgrims on the pilgrimage.
Key arrangements include:
Strict traffic rules and convoy movements on major highways. Timed restrictions on pilgrim and civilian vehicles through Navyug Tunnel. Cut-off times for pilgrim and civilian vehicles at important locations to facilitate the safe movement of Yatra convoys. Deployment of additional staff on pilgrimage routes. CCTV surveillance along the entire route. Real-time pilgrim tracking with RFID tags and GPS-based monitoring systems.
There are also many infrastructure improvements that are completed before the pilgrimage starts.
The trekking routes from Baltal and Chandanwari have been widened to nearly 12 feet, while night illumination has been installed to improve safety. Flood-damaged bridges over the Ravi River and Sehar Khad on National Highway-44 have also been rebuilt, making road links between Jammu and Kashmir more seamless.
Advance registration for the pilgrimage, which started in April, is still open, and walk-in and on-site registration will be conducted according to the scheduled dates announced by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.
Manoj Sinha: Amarnath Yatra will become a global spiritual tourism hub
The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said the annual pilgrimage is steadily becoming an international spiritual destination during the valedictory session of a two-day International Conference on Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra in Anantnag.
According to him, continuous investments in infrastructure, technology and pilgrim facilities over the last five years have laid the groundwork for taking the Yatra to a global level.
In the future, the Shri Amarnath Ji pilgrimage will be an important centre for global spiritual tourism. It will bring pilgrims and foreign visitors to the Yatra’s grandeur and India’s rich traditions of philosophy, yoga, meditation and spirituality. The pilgrimage will also be a great tool for cultural diplomacy," Sinha said.
He said that modern technologies such as online registration, RFID and GPS tracking, camera surveillance, digital information systems and better communication networks have greatly enhanced pilgrim safety while preserving the spiritual essence of the Yatra.
Pilgrimage seen as a symbol of unity
The two-day international conference also stressed the wider significance of the Amarnath Yatra beyond religion: it is central to national integration and bonding of communities in Kashmir.
With improved security, better infrastructure and digital innovations, authorities aim to ensure that the 2026 Amarnath Yatra is safer, more accessible and better managed. In the final stages, thousands of devotees from India and abroad will participate in the holy pilgrimage, reinforcing its importance as a symbol of India’s cultural heritage.
