The victim (Nandini Das) is in Manipal Hospital and Bande Nawaz who allegedly tried to harm himself in the attack is admitted to Vydehi Hospital.

Both the victim and the accused are 18 years old and attended school together at a private school, the police said. They had been friends for about three years, and they had been in a relationship previously.

Attack Allegedly Triggered by Rejected Marriage Proposal

Investigators said Nawaz was upset when he learned that Das’s parents had arranged her marriage with another man. Police say he came to her house at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday and attacked her with a knife after she rejected his marriage proposal.

According to police, the accused stabbed the woman many times and injured her neck, hands, ribs, and thighs, the official said.

According to the police, Das’s parents were not at home during the incident.

The accused locked the victim’s two younger brothers in a room before attacking her in the hall, he said.

Victim Escapes and Seeks Help

Das was able to escape from the house with multiple injuries and run outside calling for help.

Neighbours who heard her screams immediately alerted the police.

Police officers rushed to the scene and shifted both the victim and the accused to separate hospitals to receive treatment.

Das is still under medical treatment, as is Nawaz, who was allegedly attempting to take his own life after the attack, said officials.

Police Register Attempted Murder Case

Nawaz was working in Whitefield as a driver and lived in Tubarahalli, Varthur, police said.

A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempted murder and further investigation is going on.

Witnesses are recording statements and evidence is being collected to establish the sequence of events.

Second Such Incident in Recent Weeks

The attack came just weeks after another attack linked to a relationship dispute in Bengaluru.

In June, a 23-year-old woman named Anjali was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend Rajeev after they argued over marriage. The couple had been in a relationship for several years, but the woman’s family opposed their marriage.

Rajeev invited Anjali to dinner to discuss their future, the police said. He attacked her with a knife after an argument. She was taken to hospital but died of her injuries and the accused was subsequently arrested.

The current incident is still being investigated and authorities didn’t provide any information.
