A tragic incident unfolded in Bengaluru where a mother and her young son succumbed to complications resulting from a suspected gas leak from a geyser in their home. The incident occurred in the Panchasheelanagar area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Govindarajanagar Police Station. The victims were immediately rushed to a hospital but passed away while undergoing treatment.
Incident Details and Victims
The deceased have been identified as Chaandini (26), the mother, and her four-year-old son, Yuvi (4). The tragic event took place in the afternoon when Chaandini and Yuvi went for a bath. It is suspected that during this time, gas leaking from the geyser caused them to become severely ill. The husband, Kiran, who works as a carpenter, found them unresponsive or gravely unwell, and they were immediately transported for medical assistance.
Failure to Respond to Treatment
Chaandini and Yuvi were admitted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru, where they were placed under critical care. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, their condition deteriorated, and they unfortunately succumbed to the effects of the suspected gas poisoning. The gas leak, believed to be carbon monoxide (CO) from an improperly ventilated bathroom where a gas geyser was operating, caused them to lose consciousness and suffer fatal respiratory complications.
Police Investigation and Warning
The bodies of the mother and child are currently at Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The Govindarajanagar Police have registered a case and are investigating the exact cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the gas leak in the Panchasheelanagar residence. This tragic event serves as a stark and severe warning to the public about the extreme dangers associated with using gas geysers, particularly those that utilize LPG or have poor ventilation, which can lead to the silent, colorless, and odorless poisoning by carbon monoxide gas.
