The killed teen was Tanushree, and she was discovered on Thursday, April 9, hanging at her home in Manorayanapalya. Though reports have initially insinuated the teen had suicide due to failing her exams, the case has been ignited by allegations by relatives against the girl’s mother, and by questions raised against the suicide theory.

The incident, authorities said, happened roughly around three pm on Thursday. Asha, the victim's mother, told police that Tanushree was distressed over the results of her examinations. She then committed suicide. Yet this sequence of events is so concerning that both police authorities, and the victim's extended family members have both been alarmed by it.

Relatives noted that whereas the death occurred in the afternoon, police weren’t informed until 10:00 p.m., an extraordinary eight-hour delay that has not been cleared. Also, with the assistance of four or five local youths, Asha allegedly lifted her body off the noose before the police arrived in what may have disturbed the scene of the incident.

The concern grew after Tanushree’s brother, Dhanush, spoke out, describing his sister as a "mentally strong" person who would never commit suicide in order to save herself from academic failure. Dhanush has openly accused Asha of aiding in the death, linking it to a troublesome past in Tanushree's family. He claimed that Tanushree's father died two years ago because he was distressed about Asha's alleged extramarital affair.

Tanushree was aware of this relationship and had frequently fought at length. Family suspects that the student may have been murdered from the outset to silence her about these personal matters, framed as the result of exam failure. The Hebbal Police have officially accepted a case and are investigating all angles.

The body has been transferred to the Ambedkar Medical College Hospital in K.G. Halli for a post-mortem examination, which will be responsible for establishing the cause and timing of death. The mother says it was academic pressure but police have focused on what they perceive to be an eight hour delay in reporting the incident and reports of the mother’s personal life. Now, forensic report waits for the community to see whether a tragic academic crime or a cold-blooded student crime.
