Chennai: To reinforce the government of Tamil Nadu’s commitment to clean and accountable administration, Minister Arunraj has said that the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is not giving up the idea of transparent, honest and service oriented governance, and everyone is part of the government.
Minister Arunraj has told the media in a public meeting that the state government is at the forefront of integrity, accountability and inclusive development and welfare of the poor and needy citizens every day and the welfare program is going forward to make Tamil Nadu a better place for good people.
The Chief Minister has always told us that governance must be transparent at the level where it is important and government schemes and public resources must reach the target audience without delay or discrimination at the government level, “M. Arunraj” said. The government is not only launching welfare schemes, but also putting in place effective monitoring and accountability mechanisms to make sure that welfare programs are being carried out in a transparent way and that it is a system that works for people’s welfare, he said.
As our government, the minister said, we have taken steps to enhance the efficiency of administration and service delivery in Tamil Nadu - but also the improvement of the governance. Digital governance, grievance redressal systems and regular review of government departments have contributed to transparency and the elimination of bureaucratic delays. These have helped the government to improve communication with the public and all the services we provide.
The truth in governance is still at the heart of the present administration, he said, it is still at the core of the present administration. “The government has always been very much in favor of ethical practice in public administration and has taken concrete steps to make sure that we get things done and the government has taken a number of steps to hold officials accountable to their responsibilities in the exercise of their duties,” he said. The Chief Minister has always told the departments to behave in the service of the people with justice, fairness, integrity and a sense of responsibility in a way that is just because of the people and the people, he said.
As for the state’s development agenda, he said, the government is still investing funds in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, social welfare, and industrial growth. Transparent governance will ensure that development projects are implemented effectively and benefit the largest possible population in society, and it will take longer to achieve,” he said.
The minister said Tamil Nadu had also implemented welfare schemes for women, students, senior citizens, farmers and economically weaker sections to improve their lives. He went on to state that the government wants to create equal opportunities for all while not leaving any deserving beneficiary behind. Open implementations of these schemes have raised public confidence in the administration he says.
Arunraj said that the government believes that effective governance requires continuous engagement with the public. Feedback through grievance meetings, district-level interactions and public consultations has enabled the administration to identify problems and take the appropriate steps to respond and provide policy changes. That’s the government’s position on responsive and democratic governance, he said.
The minister also commended government officials and local administration in implementing flagship schemes in the districts. Coordinated efforts between departments have led to rapid development of the projects in development areas and to service delivery in urban and rural areas and the national infrastructure, healthcare facilities, drinking water projects and educational institutions have been the drivers of the state's development.
Arunraj said transparency is not just on financial accountability but rather the transparency in decision-making, policy implementation, and communication with citizens. He also said that the Chief Minister has been a champion of governance that earns public confidence in honesty, efficiency and fairness and that of the government in order to make sure that elections can be transparent and credible and that decision making should be transparent to the people.
Political observers say that public statements on transparent governance are often made when governments want to cement public confidence in their administrative process. The Tamil Nadu government has regularly stressed that its governance model focuses on social justice, inclusive development and fair distribution of welfare benefits while ensuring administrative accountability.
