Yuva Sathi Scheme Launched Early, ₹1500 Relief for Bengal’s Youth

This surprised many when West Bengal’s government introduced the Yuva Sathi scheme way before all planned. On 7 March 2026, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that ₹1500 had already been credited into the bank accounts of eligible unemployed youth. Originally planned to roll out on August 15, the scheme has been turned on its head and taken up online by the state. This form of financial assistance has been an unexpected relief for thousands of young people.

The Yuva Sathi scheme aims to financially empower unemployed youth in West Bengal to cover their expenses up to ₹1500 a month. That is meant to aid them in paying for such basic needs as finding employment or seeking out ways in which to sharpen their skills. They must reside in West Bengal permanently as per the government’s eligibility requirements. The official portal, banglaryuvasathi.com, permits applicants to compare their situation and verify whether the checks have been credited.

Mamata Banerjee announced the earliest launch following her sit‑in protest in Kolkata over some allegedly deleted voter lists. She attached the scheme to her wider message of rights protection and support for the young. Pushing the date forward, she said, was to suggest that her government cared about people and welfare, not just race, and that it would do its bit to encourage them to do all they can to include, work as hard as they could. The act is popularly understood as a welfare measure at the same time as a political strategy for future elections.

Many applicants were surprised by the announcement. The youth who applied said they believed payments would come later in the year, but some of them saw ₹1500 credited into their accounts on March 7 itself. Social media was quickly inundated with posts by the beneficiaries to express gratitude and relief. Opposition parties have meanwhile blamed the timing, saying that it may be politically motivated.

The early launch has been embraced, but the implementation also has concerns. Sudden rollouts can cause delays or technical issues with crediting all accounts. Awareness is also an obstacle most of the applicants may not be aware that payments have already begun. The project could only hope to flourish if delivery and transparency will both be smooth.

The announcement of the Yuva Sathi scheme has captivated the news in West Bengal. And the ₹1500 monthly support is quick but effective for unemployed youth. For the government, it’s a project of social welfare and an act of political will. At that moment, whether the scheme has any impact on the society will be contingent upon how the funds end up being allocated to all eligible beneficiaries of the scheme and as the overarching issue of youth unemployment is addressed.
