Named as the best discus thrower in the women’s category, Seema Kaliramna was awarded a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. Seema had to be strong and determined during the course of the process and still managed to get a medal-winning throw with a best throw of 58.65 metres. The entire course of her medal-winning effort was not easy from the first throw to the last, and the first throw she made was a foul, and she had to reset herself. She recovered with a solid second-round throw of 57.32m and then took the medal-winning throw of 58.65m in her third attempt.
Achievement and Resilience: A Track Record in Athletics and Resilience. Seema comes from Dinod in the Bhiwani district of Haryana and is from a sports family. Her athletic background was especially strong because her father, an Indian Army basketball player and a javelin thrower, encouraged her to get to the top of the competition and was always on her side. In the midst of her early recognition and encouragement from school mentors, when she married Ravinder, a former national discus thrower and coach, she grew into her own personal coach. She was now working with Ravinder and having a professional relationship where she was able to go through a lot of training and work with him to become a top international athlete.
Advocacy in Motherhood, Academia, and Sport. Seema is not just a person of athletics. She is a wife and a student and is actively pursuing a PhD in Physical Education. The very physical demands of high-performance training and the emotional toll of motherhood and doctoral research require the kind of discipline that is very rarely found in others. After the birth of her young son, she returned to professional sports and proved that she is still passionate about her education and her sport.
Taste of Glory. Seema shares how hard it is to get to the top of the world. She has said she cannot be away from her son during training camps and overseas competitions, which has been the hardest psychological challenge of her career. She also touched on the financial uncertainty that many track-and-field athletes face; a secure job would be a lifeline in case of career mishaps like injuries. Seema took those odds and dedicated her international bronze medal to her husband and coach, noting that his support, mentorship, and sacrifices turned her Commonwealth dream into a reality.
