The horrific accident, which occurred around 2:30 AM near Ambience Mall on Nelson Mandela Marg, resulted in the death of one young restaurant worker and left two of his colleagues injured.

Victim Was Sole Breadwinner

The deceased has been identified as Rohit Bisht (23), a chef at a French bakery-café located inside Ambience Mall. Rohit, who hailed from Chamoli, Uttarakhand, was tragically declared brought dead upon arrival at the hospital. His family has since spoken out, describing him as the sole breadwinner for his parents, who are now in shock.

The two injured victims, identified as Kapil (23) and Lalit (35), were also employees at the same restaurant. They sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment. All three men were waiting at an autorickshaw stand after completing their late-night shift when the luxury vehicle struck them.

Accused Driver Arrested

Police have apprehended the driver, identified as Shivam Arora (29), a software engineer and resident of Karol Bagh. He was reportedly returning home to Noida from his wedding reception at a hotel in Vasant Kunj and was accompanied by his new wife and elder brother.

  • Cause of Accident: According to the Delhi Police, the preliminary inquiry suggests the driver, who had borrowed the vehicle from a friend, lost control of the Mercedes due to a road diversion. The vehicle first hit the divider, veered towards the roadside, hit an iron pole, and then slammed into the three men standing at the auto stand. The high-impact collision left the SUV severely damaged.
  • Legal Action: Shivam Arora has been arrested and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those related to causing death by negligence and rash driving. Police also conducted a medical examination to verify if the driver was intoxicated, though initial reports suggest no alcohol was found in his system.

The incident has highlighted serious concerns about road safety and the devastating consequences of high-speed negligence on Delhi's roads, especially during the late-night hours.
