And Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome shortly after arriving in Italy, yet another step in a growing diplomatic rapport between the two states.
Modi himself, after reaching Rome, said that the two leaders “had lengthy dialogues during dinner” and went to the iconic Colosseum together. It highlighted the cordial, personal relationship between the leaders and the ongoing push to cement India’s strategic cooperation with Italy.
According to Modi, the two shared their viewpoints on a variety of issues and welcomed renewed engagement in a bid to develop closer ties. The Prime Minister said he expected to lead more talks on the improvement of the India-Italy friendship in a wide range of domains.
But that’s at a time when India and Italy are trying to enhance their collaboration on trade, defence, clean energy, technology and innovation and also on many other frontiers, even economic and commercial relations that reflect a common interest for both parties. Diplomatic relations between the two countries have been increasing in recent years, and the two countries have been collaborating on more global and regional matters.

The Rome meeting also drew a lot of fanfare on social media, such as in which the steps of both leaders into the historic Colosseum, where both leaders’ heads of state took place quickly went viral in short order. So, as political and cultural links, as well as strategic partnerships, were highlighted, the iconic Roman structure posed a picture-capturing backdrop to the meetings’ dialogue between the two representatives.
The personal chemistry between Modi and Meloni has progressively come to define India-Italy relations. So has their public relations and diplomatic visibility, particularly during their annual international summits and bilateral rendezvous. The two are expected during Modi's visit to engage in more formal talks focusing on economic cooperation, as well as some new investments and cooperation between the Indian and Italian producers.
Manufacturing, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, infrastructure and defence production can also be relevant when talking about the G20, the topics that will be most prominently featured in the meeting itself. India and Italy have also been ramping up cooperation under broader global venues like the G20 or other multilateral platforms.
Dialogue about issues such as global trade, geopolitical stability, and sustainable development could continue, experts said. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Italy is seen as one major diplomatic engagement, an effort to deepen India’s ties with major European countries and widen the scope of economic and technology cooperation.
